George Wing Kee

A distinguished local figure of unrivalled integrity, George Wing Kee is a sales, marketing and public relations professional. Known as the Grandfather of Chinatown, George holds a wealth of local knowledge and expert advice gathered from experiencing and working through the transformations and developments of Chinatown since the 1950s.
His family business interests in Zetland, Green Square for over 52 years, gives him a deep knowledge of the history of the booming area.

As a former sales promotions director with Aladdin Discounts and current Justice of the Peace, he is in daily contact with managerial and production personnel amongst an array of trades and services in the area. He also served as a vice president of the Food Retailers association – in the grocery and takeaway food trades.
Also a member of Kensington RSL – having served in the CMF and National Service in 1954 in the army intelligence corps.
He enjoys socialising and interacting with people from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds – from Sydney school teachers and their students to executives from some of Sydneys’ larger corporations.

George’s involvement as a founding member of the Haymarket Chamber of Commerce also means he has continuous contribution and strong connections to the local business community. He truly gets involved and amidst the action by personally leading historical tours through the Chinatown district during its many cultural festivities.

With his hardworking and unfailing commitment to the local Haymarket area, George’s strong passion and desire to satisfy the needs of Chinatown community only enable it to flourish and progress further.
